Mark Zhao’s paper titled “FPGA-Based Remote Power Side-Channel Attacks” is accepted for publication at this year’s IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy. The paper shows that an FPGA, which is increasingly being integrated into computing systems including cloud services such as Amazon EC2, opens a door for remote power-side channel attacks over the network. Traditionally, the power side-channel attacks were considered to require physical access or proximity to the system.
